Pine Wood Derby

Being a mom of boys it was only a matter of time that one of them would want to be a scout right?
Well we tried with Anthony, but he had no interest in signing up, he instead chose to play soccer and be an altar server....all good and something to be proud of.
But my Matthew is a little different. He has a lot of energy and we need to keep him busy and involved in things, he has a tendency to drop out of things (Karate last year...still sad about that), so we have to stick with him.
This fall he joined the local Tiger Cub Scout pack and he is loving it. He gets to hang out with his daddy and his friends and eat pizza and play and make stuff. My crafty kid has found his calling.
Yesterday they had the Pine Wood Derby (for those who don't know...(me), they give you a piece of wood, 4 nails and 4 wheels and tell you to make a car that weighs around 5oz.)
DH not being handy/crafty at all goes running to our dear friend Tom and he and Matthew build a pretty cool car. Then Mommy to the rescue has to add some weights to it, and at the weigh in the car was exactly 5oz...wooo hooo.
Of the 3 races he placed 2nd, 1st, then 2nd again, getting the overall placement for Tiger cubs at 3rd place! sooo surprising and exciting...........
I think I can start to like this whole scout thing. (this is a daddy & me thing, I try to stay out of it unless it's a big event, they need bonding time).
